Grow your own eye? Well, not quite all of the eye, and it's not quite ready for implanting in humans But the research reported by Yashiki Sasai on work done in his lab in Japan has succeeded in growing layered retinas and more, including three-dimensional eye parts forming the optic cup.
The relatively near-term prospect is for ways of helping patients with macular degeneration, glaucoma, and retinitis pigmentosa.
